The Perch Base escaped the Phoenix summer heat while attending the Gudgeon Base Picnic at Bob Edwards Park on September 21, 2019 in Prescott Valley, AZ. Ten Perch Base members and wives attended (some are dual members of both bases.)
Among the fine food and company, Gary (Wink) Winkelman, the Gudgeon Base Commander showed off the award that the "US Submarine Veterans Gudgeon Base/Perch Base/Tucson Base" entry won in the "Fraternal - Church - Non-Profit - Municipal" category at the Prescott Frontier Days® Parade back on July 6th, 2019.
Other activities at the Picnic included Honorary Submariner Certificates to World War 2 Navy Veteran Jerry Welna and Vietnam War Air Force Veteran Jim Niemisto who have both given presentations at Gudgeon Base meetings. Vic Van Horn, the District Commander Western Division 1, inducted the new Gudgeon Base Officers: Tom Warner as Chaplain, Rudy Arp as Secretary, and Ken Werner as COB and presented a Base Commander's Handbook to Wink Winkelman.
Adjacent to Bob Edwards Park at City Hall is the Military Service Monument, completed and then dedicated on Veterans Day 2012. Gudgeon (and Perch) Base Life Member and Holland Club Member Jack Messersmith was the Treasurer for the Military Service Monument.
