From March - June 1985, the ARIZONA began an Inter coastal Waterway tour from Houston, TX to Panama City , FL. This 1100-mile waterway trip included major port stops of Galveston, New Orleans, Biloxi, Mobile Bay and Pensacola. We were filming a VCR documentary of the history/heritage of the waterways as seen through the eyes of the battleship.
From Feb - July 1986 the ARIZONA completed a 2200-mile Intercoastal
Waterway voyage from Tarpon Springs, FL to Lake Harbor, Lake Okeechobee.
The ARIZONA went down to Ft. Lauderdale, turned north and began the journey
to the Statue of Liberty. 56 marinas were stopovers on this east coast
trip and major ports were St. Augustine, Savannah, Charleston, Norfolk,
Annapolis, Wash DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and the culminating harbor
of NY from July 2- 4.
Additional water trips have included: Miami -New York in 1975; New
York, Hudson Rjver to Montreal in 1976; Nashville to Aurora, Ky. in 1977.
During the bicentennial year, June of 1991, the Arizona began a 500
mile journey down the Mississippi Rjver while carrying pen palletters from
Northern CA & Phoenix AZ. Children, young people, and old alike, along
the river apprising them of the upcoming 50th anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
The replica model of the USS ARIZONA has logged over 4500 water miles.
Our ARIZONA continues to go forth to carry a message to young people.
It is expressed in our christening message:
This ship is to honor the 1102 men entombed in the Pearl Harbor ARIZONA
since Dec. 7, 1941. .May all Americans who see this ship remember the sacrifices
of these men who gave their lives that we may enjoy the freedoms we have
today. 1 Christen you the image, the reflection, the likeness, the replica
of the original USS ARIZONA.
God speed you on your way to honor the brave men enshrined in the Pearl
Harbor "ARIZONA."
