Lt. Wayne Anton "Brad" Braastad, USN (ret)

Perch Base Holland Club Member and Life Member Lt. Wayne Anton "Brad" Braastad, USN (Retired) passed away September 24, 2023, at the age of 101. Our condolences to Brad's wife, Stella, and children, Barbara, Wayne, Marilyn and Ruthie.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn on July 7, 1922, Brad was a deeply religious man, husband, father and WWII naval leader.
Although a resident of Tucson, AZ, Brad became a member of Perch Base in Phoenix, AZ, in our early years, then chartered the Tucson Base USSVI and was the first Tucson Base Commander on January 1, 2004.
Services have been held.

Brad's next assignment in 1943 became his qual boat, USS O-8 (SS‑69). Brad served on the O-8 from 1943 to 1945 and was promoted to MOMM2(SS) while on board.

Brad's next assignment from 1945 to 1948 was on the USS Cubera (SS‑347) as a Plankowner. Brad was promoted to EN1(SS) while on board.

Brad's next assignment from 1948 to 1949 was on the Submarine Tender USS Howard W. Gilmore (AS-16) (AS‑16).

Brad was then commissioned in 1958, assigned to the USS Ronquil (SS‑396) during 1963, and retired from the Navy in 1967 as a Lt.
